Hi Chuck:

As I understand it, net burn calories are the difference between calories you consume in a given day less the calories you expend. So if you eat 2000 calories and expend 2200 you have a net burn of 200, meaning you consumed 200 less calories than you burned. Or to put it another way, you used 200 calories more than you ate which is how weight loss happens. The calories column in Summary includes the calories you burn just by being alive plus any activity you enter. So using the above example, lets say you expend 2000 calories just by being alive and you burn another 200 mowing the lawn. That's how the calories total up. Make sense? Subtract those calories from what you eat and try for a deficit which again, is weight loss.

When I first signed up for Fatburn (almost a year ago!) I was thrilled to learn I expended 1500 caloreis a day just living, with no exercise included. It made the task of losing some weight feel more manageable -- it became a question of numbers and finding activity with a high number of calories burned. Of course, having fun with an activity is a great motivator, too. As a kid I loved to bicycle and I find now that an hour or two at an average of 15 MPH will burn 500+ calories for my body. That's a nice burn for one day and I have fun doing it.

Hope this helps and good luck to you with Fatburn!

Sue
