Subject: Walking the dog
I never know how to enter walking the dog. Part of the walk is brisk, and part of it I'm stuck standing still while he sniffs the bushes. Do people generally enter slow strolling for dog walking? I always think of slow strolling as shopping...you know, just shuffling around. Which is much slower than most of walking the dog. I have no idea how many miles per hour I'm walking, ever - so I can't use those ones. Tricky.

Hi:
I walk my dog frequently and I know what you mean -- we walk briskly then stop for a bit while she sniffs around. I wear an inexpensive ($15) pedometer that slips onto the waistband of my shorts. It is set for my stride (follow the directions) and tells me how long I walk and and at what speed in MPH and in steps per minute. You csn buy a pedometer at most sporting good stores like Sports Authority, Dick's etc. No batteries are necessary and there are many different models but all are small and kinda fun to use, especially if you wear it all day. It's interesting to see just how far or how many steps one takes in the course of an average day.
Good luck and keep walking!
