Subject: Stationary Bike
I used to be a runner. As I've gotten older, I've taken less time to train. The winters in the Northeast can get very cold and dark. To help get over the winter gloom and help get back into shape, I bought a stationary bike. I positioned towards a window where I can look out to a beautiful bay. I know it can be "boring" to sit and pedal, so I have been using a motivational trick. I have given myself a mental hurdle of 100 calories. This only takes about 15 minutes. After that, if I want to keep going I can...or I can stop and do another 100 later. Since many snacks and small meals can be measured in 100 calorie increments, it's easy to keep the net weight loss going. If I wind up eating a cookie after a meal (which I don't often do)...I get on the bike and burn it off.
