The USDA recommendations on % of Fats, Carbs, and proteins you have a day do those play a big part in losing the weight? I usually grab for the low-fat or fat free versions of food and notice although low in calories they are high in carbs. I am seeing that I am on the lower end of the fat intake recommended and over the % recommended for carb intake, and just right for protein. Is this ok? |

N, Our simple answer to you is that it sounds like you are eating okay. You do, however, want to make sure that you are eating the right kinds of fat. There are twenty different needed fatty acids, but they are all derived from two: linoleic acid (omega-6 fatty acids) and linolenic acid (omega-3 fatty acids). Your body does not produce these two fatty acids so they must come from the food you eat. Many of our low fat/nonfat foods don't include these essential fatty acids. Omega-3 and Omega-6 essential fatty acids are especially important for making prostaglandins in your body. Prostaglandins are hormone-like substances that control many activities in your body. A lack of essential fatty acids in your diet can lead to a chemical imbalance of prostaglandins and health problems. Linoleic acid (Omega-6 essential fatty acids) is in ample supply in the typical American diet. However, many of the foods that contain good sources of linolenic acid (Omega-3 essential fatty acids) are considered bad for dieting and eliminated when someone is trying to lose weight. The “best of the best” of these foods are nuts, soybean, canola oil, walnut oil and cold-water fish such as salmon, tuna, bluefish, flounder, herring, cod, mackerel and shrimp. As far as being over on your carb intake, it's important to know that carbohydrates are used for your immediate source of energy and any of those carbs that aren't burned off during the day will be stored as fat. Be sure that you are exercising enough so that you are always burning those excess calories off. If you're doing this everything should be fine. Thanks for the question.

Would it be reasonable to lose 20 lbs in 3 months? I do spinning 2-3 times per week,40-60 min of cardio another 2-3 days per week, and weight training 2 or 3 imes during the week. Is that a good program for what my goals are? thanks |

Lin, It seems that you have the exercise part of your weight lose program down. But, you're missing the most important parts of the formula for weight loss. We would say that over 80 percent of weight loss is what you eat. To lose your 20 lbs in three months (90 days), you will have to burn 70,000 calories more than you consume over that time frame. This equates to a 778 more calories burned than you eat each day. For example, let's say you are a 5'6" woman who weighs 160 lbs and has a sedentary, low stress job. You will burn roughly 1603 calories every day before any workout. It sounds like you work out pretty much every day for about an hour. If you burn 600 calories during your workouts your total caloric burn for the day would be 2203. Remember, to meet your goal you will have to burn 778 more calories than you eat every day. So on the days you workout and burn 2203 calories you can eat 1425 calories (2203 - 778 = 1425). It's important for you to know that on the days that you don't do a workout and you just burn 1603 because of your metaboism it will be impossible to meet your goal of 778 and keep everything functioning normally. A woman should never drop below 1000 calories consumed for the day. You risk slowing down your metabolism because your body thinks it's staving. In this short time frame you will have to do some kind of workout every day. Sign up and use fatburn.com every day. Our system will allow you to absolutely know if you are meeting you goal daily. Use the Meals Page to find out how many calories you are eating. Use our Activities Page to find out how many calories you are burning. The key to our system and your weight lose is our Summary page. This is where we net your comsumed calories against your burn calories and you find out if you actually burned 778 more calories than you ate each day. We make all this quick, easy and it only costs $6.99 a month for a three month deal. Use fatburn.com every day, meet your goal of 778 more calories burned than you eat and you will lose your 20 pounds in three months. |

I was wondering, is there anything that I can do when I feel the need to eat, but I know I'm not hungry? How can I make those urges go away when I know Im not really hungry but I want food? Also, during meal times, how can I try to eat less so I do not overeat? thank you for your time. |

Dan, what you are experiencing is what millions of Americans do every day. They eat simply because the food is there. Well, what we would suggest is: 1) Keep HEALTHY foods around. What we mean by that are foods low in calories. So when you do snack, it doesn't kill your daily net caloric burn. Having used fatburn.com for a little while, you should be gaining a pretty decent understanding of what these foods are; 2) Eat slowly. The slower you eat, the less you will eat before you feel full. Try it; 3)Drink plenty of water. Drinking water will make you feel more full without adding calories to your diet; 4)When you do snack or overeat, enter EVERYTHING you ate into fatburn.com. Learn exactly how many extra calories you consumed so that you can figure out exactly what you have to do to burn thsoe calories off. Did you down a large bag of potato chips in a moment of weakness? OK, fine. How many calories was that? Let's say it was 1,000 calories. Well, if you are a 190 pound male, you can run for 60 minutes at a 10 minute mile pace, bike for 80 minutes at a 13 mph pace, or ride a Stairmaster for 90 minutes (moderate pace) to burn off ALL of those calories. All of these caloric burn rates can be found on the website under the "Activities" tab. Remember, this is the essence of the fatburn.com philosophy- burn more calories than you consume. If you eat a lot, you are going to have to burn those calories off. Fatburn.com shows you exactly what you have to do. |

According to your activities section, 45 minutes of moderate elyptical training burns apprxomimately 500 calories. This differs from what the actual elyptical trainer reports. Should I not trust the elyptical trainer? For example, today I completed 45 minutes of what I believe to be moderate training. The machine told me I burned 660 calories. But the activities section says I need 1 hour of moderate elyptical training to burn 660 calories? Any advice? |

Dave,
We searched high and low for the correct burn rate factors of all the exercises on the site. The one we have for the elliptical trainer is dead on. We've been asked this question before and are dedicated to making sure the information we give is correct. Stick with the numbers you get from the website. They won't be over inflated to try and get you to use one machine over the other. Thanks for the question.

Hi, I have been working out for about 5 months now, and i have lost weight which is great. But i was wondering, is there a plateau that you reach eventually, and then it becomes harder to loose weight, you almost stop loosing weight for a bit. And then once that plateau is gone, you loose weight again? im hoping this is the case for me because it seems that i cant get passed a certain weight. Also, what is a good time lenght to loose 50 pounds? thanks a lot |

Kylie, A good time frame to lose 50 lbs. is six months to a year. When you burn a minimum of 500 calories more than you eat a day you will lose one pound a week. That would take about a year. Burning a minimum of 1000 calories more than you eat a day would finish the job in about six months. We designed fatburn.com to be your guild through this process. Remember the only time you will lose body fat is when you are in an energy imbalance. When you eat fewer calories than you burn your body, in its need to be balanced (homeostasis), will use your stored body fat for its energy source. All weight loss programs fall under the same law of physics. An energy source cannot be created nor destroyed, it has to be transferred. The energy source you are trying to transfer is your body fat. fatburn.com clients that use our Meals Page to find out how many calories they eat, our Activities Page to find out how many calories they're burning and our Summary Page to find out what their net burn is for the day, lose the weight they want. In the end they keep it off because they learn how their body works and how to eat the foods they like inside a formula that works. As far as reaching a plateau, our suggestion to you is to be consistant. As long as you continue to be in a calorie deficit you will continue to lose weight. The issue you might be having with your plateau is that you don't know if you're in a deficit and if it's consistent. Your body, like the rest of you, wants consistency. Make sure you are being consistent with your calorie deficit every day. Try fatburn.com for one month. If you keep your caloric burn a minimum of 500 calories burned more than you eat every day for a month and don't lose four pounds we will refund the your $7.99. Good luck! |
